What Is Gamification?
Gamification turns your virtual event into an engaging, interactive experience by tapping into attendees’ natural desires for achievement, competition and recognition; attendees complete tasks, earn points, level up and collect badges and rewards to stay motivated throughout the event.
For example, at a “2025 Annual AI Convention” attendees might earn points for visiting sponsor booths like “NeuroNet Pavilion,” attending keynotes such as “AI in Technical Support” or connecting with peers in networking lounges; these actions encourage exploration, boost engagement and drive meaningful outcomes.
Gamification uses several game-like elements; points, challenges, levels, badges and rewards, to transform typical event interactions into a dynamic journey; the goals are:
- Encourage Exploration: guide attendees to discover all facets of an event from attending specific sessions or panel discussions at a certain exhibitor or sponsor booth ensuring a richer experience.
- Boost Engagement: Attendees stay engaged as they track their own progress watching their current progress and what badges or rewards they are closer to attain.
- Drive Outcomes: reward behaviors that align with event objectives, such as scanning exhibitor badges to visit sponsor booths; so sponsors and organizers see higher booth traffic and session attendance.
Activity Points Default
By default, gamification tracks these activity types at a base value:
- Connections: each successful connection (e.g., attendee-to-attendee connection) awards 10 points.
- Sessions: each session attended awards 10 points.
- Badge Scans: each exhibitor badge scan awards 20 points.
Customizing Activity Points: admins can edit any activity’s point value to better suit event objectives; for instance, at a “2025 Annual AI Convention,” you might set session attendance to 5 points (instead of 10) while setting connecting with fellow attendees to 15 points (instead of 10) to encourage attendees to focus on networking challenges. | |
Example Configuration:
- Set “Sessions” to 5 points; attendees receive fewer points per session so that “Connect with fellow attendees” and “Exhibitor Scans Attendee's Badge” challenges become more attractive, balancing traffic between panels and exhibitor halls.
- Change “Exhibitor Scans Attendee's Badge” to 25 points, to incentivize visiting more exhbitor booths, boosting exhibitor visibility.
| |
Under the “Challenges” tab, admins define specific tasks attendees can complete to earn points; each challenge type is tied to a collection and has settings that specify what attendees must do.
Step-by-Step:
Example Challenges at “2025 Annual AI Convention”:
- Attend AI Ethics Panel: select “AI Ethics Panel” session; attendees earn 20 points upon joining.

- Connect with 5 Attendees: attendees must network with five different participants to earn 60 points.

- Visit DeepVision Labs Booth: define “DeepVision Labs” as target exhibitor; attendees earn 15 points when they check in at that booth.

Activity points vs. Challenge points
Challenge Points: A key feature of challenges is the ability to assign a customized point value upon completion, distinct from the points awarded for individual, smaller actions. For example, completing the "Attend AI Ethics Panel" challenge grants 20 points, whereas the standard "Attend Session" activity (as per the example above) awards only 5 points.
Levels
Levels mark milestones and create a sense of progression, offering attendees visible status as they accumulate points; levesl help guide participants through defined thresholds.
By default the gamification is configured with the followin levels:
- Silver: 200 points
- Gold: 300 points
- Platinum: 400 points
| |
Creating Custom Levels:
- Click “Create Level”: opens a form to define a new level name and point threshold, plus optional icon or badge image to visually represent the level.
- Enter Level Name: For example for a “2025 Annual AI Convention,” you might choose “AI Enthusiast”, “AI Innovator” or “AI Pioneer”.
- Define Point Threshold: Set the minimum points required; for example, “AI Enthusiast” at 150 points helps lower-tier participants feel rewarded early in the event.

- Optional Color & Icon: Click on the selector and pick a color that best alings with your event color palette. Select an icon from the dropdown to associate it wtih the level.

- Save: Once you have configured the level clikc the "Create Level" button to save the changes.
Example Custom Levels at “2025 Annual AI Convention”:
- AI Enthusiast – 150 points: early-level incentive to reward attendees who engage in small challenges like visiting some sponsor booths and attending a small amount of sessions.
- AI Innovator – 300 points: mid-tier milestone for dedicated participants who complete a mix of challenges and individual activities; such as “Attend AI Ethics Panel” and “Visit Exhibitor Booths”
- AI Pioneer – 500 points: top-level achievement unlocked by attendees who demonstrate consistent engagement; visiting multiple booths, attending keynotes and networking extensively.
